Seasonal allergies, commonly referred to as allergic rhinitis or hay fever, cause sniffles, runny nose and itchy eyes at certain times of year when trees, grasses or weeds release pollen into the air.
Antihistamines and nasal steroids are two medications typically prescribed to alleviate allergy symptoms. Both may also be available over-the-counter.
Pollen
Tree pollens, grasses and weeds are often the culprit behind seasonal allergies. When these particles land on our throats and noses they cause runny noses, itchy eyes or sore throats – as well as lead to sinus pressure and congestion; additionally those allergic to such pollens may even develop allergic conjunctivitis resulting in red and watery eyes.
Pollen releases proteins that our immune systems recognize as invaders and respond to by producing antibodies to attack and destroy them, prompting our bodies to produce extra mucus which we then expel through sneezing or coughing.
As opposed to colds, which may appear year-round, seasonal allergies usually only appear at certain times of year and typically last six weeks or less. If you suspect allergies, see your physician about undergoing either a blood or skin test using pollen-coated needles which prick your skin in various locations and look for any indications of allergic reaction such as reddened and swollen spots on it.
Antihistamines and decongestants may help alleviate your allergy symptoms. You should also pay attention to weather forecasts and stay indoors when pollen counts are at their peak. If symptoms continue, immunotherapy (allergy shots) might provide relief; this treatment gradually exposes you to increasing amounts of an allergen until tolerance has been built up over time.
Mold
Mold allergies, just like seasonal allergies (hay fever), can produce symptoms like runny noses, itchy eyes and sneezing. Mold spores flourish in humid environments, often leading to seasonal spikes in outdoor mold counts in summer and fall when outdoor allergy symptoms flare. Indoor molds may also present problems and could contribute to year-round symptoms in certain people.
Mold can produce mycotoxins that are toxic to both air and food sources, potentially posing serious risks to human health if inhaled or consumed, including liver and kidney damage, nerve issues and lung infections. Mycotoxins may pose even greater danger for those suffering from conditions like immunodeficiency or weak immune systems.
If you suspect having a mold allergy, your healthcare provider will take a thorough medical history and examination before performing skin and blood tests to diagnose any potential allergens.
Avoiding mold allergy symptoms is the key to treating them effectively. This means staying indoors during periods of high pollen and mold counts, keeping windows closed on windy days, using an air conditioner with HEPA filter in your home, and regularly washing any moldy surfaces with detergent and water. Your doctor may also suggest antihistamine medication to lower histamine levels in your body and ease symptoms; nasal sprays for congestion relief; rinse kits to clear your sinuses daily; or immunotherapy treatment that desensitizes immune systems against specific allergens which cause you problems.
Dust
Allergens that cause sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, watery eyes and itching can also trigger an allergic skin reaction (atopic dermatitis). Seasonal allergies often mimic cold symptoms in that they include itchy eyes, runny or stuffy nose and itchy, tingling throat – though with longer-lasting symptoms.
Seasonal Allergies reactions occur when your immune system responds too strongly to environmental allergens such as airborne pollen from trees, grass or weeds, for instance. Your body responds by producing histamines which cause symptoms such as itchy and watery eyes; runny or stuffy nose; tingling, itchy throat/ears/tingling sensation; as well as stuffiness in nose and ears resulting in itchy or watery eyes as well as feeling congested in nose/ears areas.
If your symptoms haven’t responded to over-the-counter medicines or antihistamines, it may be time to visit an allergist. Our allergy specialists will ask detailed questions about your home and work environments, family medical history and frequency and severity of symptoms before conducting skin testing to identify allergens which might be responsible. Once identified, if needed our allergists may prescribe medications which ease symptoms while subcutaneous immunotherapy therapy (SCIT) injections could also be given every three years in order to create immunity over time against an allergen over time.
Animals
Allergies occur due to your body’s hypersensitivity to environmental irritants. Your immune system overreacts when exposed to normally harmless substances called allergens, producing too many histamines which in turn trigger an itchy nose and watery eyes, with symptoms varying depending on which allergens and when you experience them; symptoms can include skin, sinuses, ears, lungs and digestive tract concerns as well. Tree pollen, grass seeds, mold spores or dust mites can all cause symptoms that result from hypersensitive immune systems overreacting against harmless substances found in our environment – making us hypersensitive against them all!
Pets may experience seasonal allergies just like humans do; however, their symptoms typically present differently than people’s. Most often itchy skin is the source of discomfort for your pet. Scratching, biting and licking becomes necessary to alleviate itchy patches which ultimately leads to skin lesions leading to infections or anus and genital itching which often lead to yeast infections in their anus or genital areas.
However, there are things you can do to alleviate itchy allergy symptoms in your pet. Frequent baths with gentle hypoallergenic shampoo can help decrease allergens on their fur and skin; wiping their paws after walks is also effective at clearing away allergens trapped by fur or skin scurf. A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids may also help decrease inflammation; however these home remedies should never take the place of professional vet evaluation – BetterVet mobile vets offer services specifically tailored towards each pet in their home to assess them before devising an individualised treatment plan tailored for them based on each individual animal’s unique needs based on individual requirements.
